As it says on the tin. A few random bits of idle curiosity. Feel free to answer or ignore any question. I'm in a ... comtemplative mood. *grin*

Word Chains - A word chain is a series of words linked by sound, shape and concept with the aim of portraying a larger idea or progression of ideas. My favourite example would be this one:

Fluent - Fluid - Liquid - Lapping - Language.

I like it firstly because for a long while I was obsessed with the word 'fluid', but that's mostly besides the point. It just has a nice shape, though I am uneasy about 'liquid' as the lynchpin. Conceptually it's the perfect and essential step, but the q in the middle takes emphasis off the last syllable, disrupting the flow a bit, and shape-wise it doesn't link so well with 'lapping', aside from the l. But overall, the chain flows nicely, and the internal conceptual logic is wonderful, almost full-circle. I like the shape and idea of it, and word-chains in general.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever met any other nice ones, or made them up for that matter?

Werewolves - Again, randomly curious, but as a result of the kinds of things I'm prone to reading (werewolf fic, DC comics, Hitchhikers Guide ...), it's a question I've been asking myself. If one of your friends, a good friend, came up to you and confessed to being a werewolf or an alien, and assuming for a moment that they actually were what they claimed ... how would you react, do you think? Honestly?

Because, though I'm 99% sure it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, and certainly wouldn't count on a personal level as anything save another facet of my friend ... on an intellectual and deeply personal level, whenever I meet a new and fascinating thing, my first reaction is to ask about five billion questions. And a lot of the time I can be quite insensitive about how those questions would impact on the person I'm asking. I know the first time I met someone who was Muslim, back when I was young, I drove her away asking stupid, insensitive questions. But the thing of it is, I don't mean to wound. I just ... really want to understand. So ... I have a feeling I might end up making that friend feel like a lab experiment or something. *sighs*

How about ye?

Mood Fic - Because I've been moody lately, and always addicted to fanfic. I was wondering, when you're in certain moods, do you have a kind of fic you're drawn to? For example, when I'm p---d off, I tend to read angst, I think in order to get pissed off on someone else's account other than my own. When I'm down, it's the fantasy AU, a world full of wonder and exploration and joy. When I'm soft and warm and tired, it's fluff, something cuddly and quiet. When I'm energetic, it's action or drama, fierce struggles and satisfying pay-offs. When I'm just weird or perverse, it's horror or creepiness, for the thrill up the spine. Like that.

What are your mood preferences, if any?
