I realise I've been absent for ... a week? Something like that, anyway. I'm sorry. I realise I've loads to catch up on, and I'll try. The last week ... let's not go there. I'm being bounced between doctors, and it's entirely possible that I was misdiagnosed to start with, five years ago, so it's no bleeding wonder the med apparently wasn't working. Then again, since my family apparently has had the same relationship through the centuries with mental disorders as it's had with crime (ie, we've had/done everything going), maybe I shouldn't be too hard on the doctors.
Anyway! To mark my return, I thought I'd post the original fic I sent into a competion a while back, since it got nowhere there and I don't have to worry about publishing. Well. I say original, but those that know will find my inspirations very, very obvious.
Title: Dust
Rating/warnings: Adult concepts involved, including genocide, extinction, telepathy, invasion of self, and a whole complicated issue revolving around childbirth. But for all that ... I'd say only a PG-13, really. Nothing at all graphic, and more melancholy than pointed.
Wordcount: 5919
Summary: Earth is dead, victim of an alien expansion (I appear to like that plot. Plus, anyone remember 1st episode of Justice League?). Three survivors wander its plains. They may seem ... familiar, in their way.
Notes: If anyone has ever read a story called 'The Cay', it was a huge inspiration to me for this. I can't remember who it's by, I just remember how much it affected me.
( White dust. It stretched as far as he could see. As far as anyone could see, now. The world was drowning in it, swallowed whole by a silent, pristine sea. The whole world. )
