Does anyone else name inanimate objects? And give living things a surfeit of names? I'm just wondering, because everyone in my family seems to.

I mean, my laptop is named Azrael. The cars are Big Amy and Dory (because of the perpetually surprised expression) respectively. The kayaks in the yard are Big John (nice, but once he starts to turn, there's no earthly way to stop him), the Lizard (because of the green colour and the tendancy to shimmy), the Piebald (who hates everyone), Bloody Mary (who only hates men), and Red Dragon (actually quite a bland little boat). The microwave, for some reason, is called Michael. And DVD player that tried to decapitate my dad by spitting a disc at him is called the Demon Machine.

And my pups. My poor pups. The oldest is known variously as Tippy, Tippen-top, Old Man, Fatso, Hound of Evil, and 'you mercenary bastard'. The young-un is called Patch, Putch, Putchie and Psycho. Collectively, they're the Marleys, Heckyl and Jeckyl, the Gruesome Twosome, the Boys, and 'Them'.

Basically, the longer we know a thing or person, the more names they receive. Is anyone else like that?
