I'm blaming
grav_ity for this, because she linked to the blog entry. But How To Name Your First Novel gives the following advice for naming your Harrowing Historical Account:
The [A COLOUR][REPEAT THAT COLOUR][A FLOWER]s Of [A CITY IN EUROPE]
I was trying to think of a colour, and coming up with something on the theme of golden/yellow, and then trying to think of the last flower I'd seen, which happened to be a crocus. So I looked up crocuses, just to see. And it turns out that saffron, which among other things gives a golden-yellow dye, is made from crocuses (though not yellow ones). *grins faintly* So I look up saffron, and the history of saffron, looking perhaps for a European city, and found its history as a ingredient in plague medications during the Black Death, and the Saffron Wars based around the town of Basel. Not quite a city but good enough.
So. My Harrowing Historical Account:
The Golden Yellow Crocuses of Basel, a story of blood, gold and spice, of class, piracy and trade, of war, plague and death. Of the rise and fall of a town, and a flower worth more than gold. *snickers*
Which just goes to show. Sometimes, the title should come before the story, really. *grins*
