I'm rewatching some ST:TOS episodes because I woke up this morning choking to death and trying to claw my own face off (hayfever, it gets me bad sometimes), so I needed something comforting. And I ended up watching "The Naked Time", in which several of the crew are infected by an alien disinhibitor and begin to act out parts of their personalities that they would usually struggle with and try to repress.

And the thing I noticed was that, while Kirk was struggling with fear about his ability to command, and Spock was struggling with his deep grief about his hybrid heritage and its costs, and Chapel was struggling with unrequited love, and some random Irish one-off character was struggling with the desire to take over the ship, what was the part of Sulu's personality that he apparently spends most of his time trying to tone down?

The desire to run around as a knight errant, shirtless and with a sword, fighting for honour and saving fair maidens.

So ... Sulu basically spends his life trying to tone down the urge to be shirtless and awesome and having the time of his life playing with pointy objects?

Sulu is the best. And okay, I'm a bit brain-fried right now from having spent the morning in a huddle of misery around a pile of tissues, but I think this is a legitimate conclusion to come to. Sulu is basically the best ever.
