Saw [livejournal.com profile] shadadukal do this MIT dialect test, and got curious. My results were as follows:

Our top three guesses for your English dialect:

1. Irish (Republic of)
2. Scottish (U.K.)
3. Australian

Bang on the money, and apparently the Gaelic influence does come through strongly, though I've a more general British Commonwealth tint than my mother (who got Irish, Northern Irish and Scottish). Oddly, given the amount of television I've watched, there doesn't appear to be much American influence, but then Irish English can be hard to budge.

Our top three guesses for your native (first) language:

1. English
2. Swedish
3. Norwegian

Oddly, my mother again was different here. Same (correct) first language, but where I got Atlantic Scandinavian for my second & third, she got Baltic/North Sea area (Finnish & Dutch). I wonder about that. I don't know enough about those languages to guess what in our respective use of grammar might have pinged it. Huh.
