Written for a prompt on the kinkmeme, about the theory that Childermass is the Raven King's bastard. I feel sort of weird writing it, since I also ship Uskglass/Childermass a little bit, but I thought I'd give it a go.
Title: Fathers and Sons
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (book, largely)
Characters/Pairings: John Childermass, William of Lanchester, discussion of John Uskglass and Black Joan. Background John Uskglass/Black Joan.
Summary: John Childermass discovers that he is the Raven King's bastard. Being his mother's son and of certain opinions, this conversation does not entirely go as John Uskglass might have expected. Fortunately, it is not John Uskglass doing the talking. It's William of Lanchester, bearing uneasy news once again, and with some weary aplomb. He always knew his king's romances would one day get them in trouble, after all
Wordcount: 5502
Warnings/Notes: Discussions of illegitimate children, bastardy, abandonment, anger, cultural differences, family reunions, reconciliation, class differences, etc. Hopeful ending.
Disclaimer: Not mine.
