I don't know how many of these I'll get done, possibly no more tonight, but we'll see. First up, anyway:

Experimentation
"You realise this is going to look utterly scandalous, and quite possibly illegal, if anyone should look in here?" Nigel asked, with what he thought was admirable patience. Very carefully restraining from putting his hands across himself in pre-emptive shielding, and glaring at the back of Nikola's head.
Nikola turned to blink at him, nonplussed. "That's why there's a lock on the door, isn't it?" he asked, squinting at Nigel as if Nigel were the insane one here, when Nikola was the one standing beside the sparking apparatus with singed shirtsleeves and his hair standing on end. "Your clothes won't go with you when you vanish. We've tried."
"I know," Nigel shot back, testily. "Easy enough for you to say. You're not the one standing stark naked in an Oxford laboratory!"
Nikola blinked once, slowly, and Nigel could see the next thought in his head. He could just bloody see it. "Well," Nikola purred, light and laughing. "That's always fixable, you know ..."
"Don't even," Nigel warned. "It looks bloody bad enough when you're as undressed as you already are, and the hair does nothing to help matters." Nikola reached up wonderingly, patting at his head in confused interest, and despite himself, despite the situation, Nigel found himself stifling a smile. "You should see yourself, mate. If I didn't think it'd get us both summarily arrested, I'd feel I ought to be bloody yelling for help."
Nikola grinned, a little absently, still patting at his head. "I must still be retaining a charge," he mused, and laughed a little, absolutely delighted, the bloody nutter. "I can store it as well as direct it. Hah! That's going to be useful ..."
"Yes," Nigel grumbled. "Because being able to set yourself on fire on a regular basis is obviously a useful ability to have."
But he watched as Nikola shook his head, glancing down as his contraption hiccoughed beside him, reaching out to pat absently at the fitful sparks of electricity. Nigel watched the actinic play across his friend's fingers, watched the look on Nikola's face go from gleefully amused to rapt, enchanted. Watched a serene, almost blissful look appear in the man's eyes. Nigel watched, and swore softly to himself, before crossing the floor to stand glaring in front of the other man. Nikola blinked languidly at him.
"Nigel?"
"If I touch you, am I going to end up on fire or on the other side of the room?" Nigel asked abruptly.
Nikola blinked, and shook his head, smiling faintly. "I've got it now," he said, turning his palm, letting the sparks sink into his skin and vanish, disappear with a playful flick of his wrist. Nigel stared at him, for one minute, stared at the little grin, at the still-soft, faintly awed expression on Nikola's face.
Then he nodded, once, and vanished himself.
"Good," he growled, a voice from empty air, and took the startled man by the shoulders, tugged him forward, and pressed his lips close-mouthed to Nikola's. Nikola made a tiny noise, a little squeak of shock, and then he closed his eyes, found Nigel with fumbling hands, and kissed him back. A little grin curling into the kiss, a smile in the shape of his mouth as he opened it, and Nigel growled faintly, pressed himself forward, pressed himself home. Nikola's hands tightened on what looked like empty air, and Nigel found a fierce grin all his own to flavour the kiss.
Nikola blinked dazedly when Nigel pulled back, the light from the upper windows passing unimpeded through Nigel's form to paint his eyes a softer blue, and unaccountably making him look younger. Making the soft delight in his eyes, so similar to the awe of a moment ago, so much like his wonder at touching what he had loved for so long, that little bit brighter, and Nigel grinned an invisible grin in raw satisfaction for it.
"I thought we were being scandalous enough as it was?" Nikola murmured softly, with a crooked grin for the patch of empty air that only his hands knew was Nigel. A sly glimmering of mischief that Nigel had always rather liked.
"Invisibility has its uses too," Nigel commented mildly, and grinned. "And if you're going to look that rumpled and enraptured just tinkering around with electricity ... well, who's going to notice the difference if the rapture's from another cause?" He laughed, just softly, and leaned in to brush his lips over the line of Nikola's jaw. "Won't nobody see a thing, will they."
"Hmmm," Nikola smiled, looking suddenly far too thoughtful for Nigel's liking, or perhaps just thoughtful enough, and that was all the warning he got before the man seized hold of him with what was now inhuman strength, and swept him up and around to sit him on the worktable next to his machine. Nigel squawked, shimmying away from it hurriedly, but Nikola held him in place, the sparks of electricity drawn to Nikola and only Nikola as if magnetised, and the man grinned at Nigel then. Rich and dark and deadly.
"Well then," Nikola purred, smiling like the Cheshire cat. "Let's see how rapturous I look tinkering with empty air, shall we?" He grinned, a sudden spark from his hand rippling through Nigel, shocking a groan out of him. "The electricity can help. What do you think?"
"I think you'd better have locked the bloody door," Nigel groaned, and let himself flicker back to visibility just for a moment, to flash the man a grin. Only a moment, and then he was nothing more than light and air once again, a ghost in Nikola's arms, and he laughed.
Let's see how much concentration it took to stay invisible, shall we? Let's see how much control Nikola really had over his abilities. Let's see if invisibility was really all the shield they needed from prying eyes, and how much they could get out of it.
Say what you bloody like, he thought absently, into the wild edge of Nikola's grin. Say what you like, but nobody did scientific experimentation like the bloody Five.
