I did not get the job. I am still jobless. I have consequently scheduled tomorrow to be depressed and hermit-like in, and am spending tonight being very silly.
On the upside, I think I may have passed my first aid exam. Hopefully. So there's that.
To distract from my RL failings right now, have some random fanvid recs?

Vid Recs
1) What New York Used To Be by giandujakiss (White Collar)
This is just a gorgeous character study of a) New York in WC, and b) Neal as he goes from lone-wolf conman par extraordinaire to prisoner to Peter's partner. The vid has a fabulous build from individual competence to mutual strife to a turning point of increasing synergy between the partners.
2) Furnace Room Lullaby by Drea (Penny Dreadful)
Okay. So. Warnings in advance for lots of sex, violence, demonic possession, and victorian sexism/repression/medical torture, plus a fair few incestuous vibes despite no actual incest. Hi. Welcome to Penny Dreadful? Heh. This vid is a study of Vanessa and Malcolm's tumultuous relationship across the show, from the (relative) innocence of their backstory to the point where it all went horribly, horribly wrong, to the end of the season where something close to forgiveness happens, if admittedly still mired in tragedy. It does not at all shy away from the twisted and betrayal-ridden nature of their relationship, but it also shows a lot of the genuine loyalty and family-feeling between them as well. It's dark and twisted and compelling, much like the show. I like it. I like it a lot.
(Also warning for spoilers for the whole show thus far).
3) The Approximate Present by Filippo Baraccani (Original)
A short animated film about chaos theory and the weather, done in an old-school computer animation style. I don't know, I just enjoyed it.
4) Might As Well Be by thirdblindmouse (Star Trek TNG/VOY/DS9/ENT)
The holodeck and holograms of Star Trek, and the border between reality and fantasy, biology and AI, life and the Matrix, when programmes can develope to be self-aware but are used as tools and game pieces anyway. This is fabulous and very, very creepy when it's all laid out like this. A little dystopic slice of philosophy to underpin a future utopia. I adore this vid so much.
5) The Song Is Over by jetpack_monkey (Horror Movies)
A celebration of classic horror movies. Not usually my thing, horror isn't my best genre, between my sister and I we recognised an alarming amount of these, and the vid is just fun, a genuine celebration of a genre. I enjoy that so much.
6) Carries On by jetpack_monkey (Jim Henson)
A celebration of Jim Henson's life and work. Just ... all the nostalgia. All of it. Childhood, right here.
7) Landsailor by Raven (Multifandom)
Technology, cooperation, and the human endeavour. If you ever have a moment where you need to feel good about the human capacity to work together and build things for the betterment of all, this vid will do you proud.
8) The Skins by such-heights (Multifandom)
Doppelgangers, clones, parallel universes, infiltration robots: that sci-fi trope that everybody loves. Meet yourself, fight yourself, save yourself, love yourself. Amazing.
9) Deep by rhoboat (Farscape)
I haven't actually watched Farscape. Everybody tells me I should, and I'm sure I'll actually get around to it at some point. The reason I like this vid, which is apparently a Scorpius/Crichton vid, despite not having seen the show, is that it tells a perfect free-standing story of a massively screwed up relationship. Control, defiance, corruption, torture, dependance, blurred realities, destruction. I'm kind of curious if whatever's happening between these two characters in the show is as spectacularly twisted (and more than a little sexual?) as the vid makes it look. Heh.
10) Dance Alarm by thirdblindmouse (Fast & Furious Films)
Fast cars, hot people, and incredibly implausible stunts, stupid chemistry in all directions, massive family/team/friendship feels, all of it set to party music all night long. What else are you looking for in an F&F vid?
11) It's Still Science Fiction To Me by azurish (Multifandom)
Sci-fi, old and new, and the continuity of the genre. Ships, societies, fashion, science, tropes. It's all rock and roll. I loved the dystopic section in the middle, from Oceania to Panem to Vendetta to Empire. And in the ship section, the matching of the lyrics on the Millenium Falcon. But. Essentially. I love this vid. I'm a sucker for sci-fi multifandoms that just celebrate the genre, because you can probably tell that it's been one of my favourites for a long, long time ;)
And now, for something completely different, I've been listening to a bunch of Air Traffic Control conversations on youtube over the last week or so, because ... I can't remember. I think this one, a snippet of JFK ground control having one of those days, is my favourite.
12) Bad Day At JFK (Real Life Air Traffic Control)
Ten minutes of a man who's had one thing go wrong that screwed up everything around it and who is trying to fix it as best he can. After the week I've had, I so feel for this guy.
And this one, for something completely random that I giggled at for about five minutes (possibly due to being hyper, but still), have a man playing a typewriter in an orchestra:
13) Typewriter Orchestra (Music)
I don't know why it's so funny to me, but it is.
