Things I'd forgotten watching the TOS episode "Mirror Mirror" again:

Firstly, Uhura is a badass. I mean, I hadn't forgotten that, it just really strikes you when you watch the episode again. She's scared the whole time, you can actually see her slump with relief on the transporter pad once they know they're safely home, but she stays the course the whole way. Both times evil, sleazy Mirror!Sulu tries to come to her, she clobbers him, she stays alone at her post surrounded by enemies while the others are trying to get shit sorted, she willingly distracts Sulu in that way knowing what could happen (while she's alone and without back-up), she's right there with the rest of them trying to take down Mirror!Spock, and she's the one who disarms Mirror!Marlena when she pulls a phaser on Kirk. Uhura owns in this episode, she really, really does.

And secondly, it's only a tiny detail but I'd completely forgotten it since last I saw this episode. The big fight in Sickbay with Mirror!Spock, it actually started because Mirror!Spock threatened McCoy.

Mirror!Spock: "I shall not waste time with you. You're too inflexible, too disciplined, once you've made up your mind. But Doctor McCoy has a plenitude of human weaknesses. Sentimental. Soft. You may not tell me what I want to know, but he will."
Kirk (panicky): "You're running a big risk, Spock!"
Mirror!Spock: "I have the phaser, Captain, and I do not intend to simply disappear, as so many of your opponents have in the past. Please. Sickbay."

Kirk has spent this entire episode so far trying to avoid doing harm to Mirror!Spock, and he's taken every threat towards himself absolutely in stride. But as soon as Mirror!Spock threatens to interrogate McCoy (which, given the universe, essentially means torture McCoy), and then once they reach Sickbay moves to carry through on that threat, Kirk very abruptly reminds him that he may be a Spock, but he's not Kirk's Spock.

Mirror!Spock: "Yes of course. The entire landing party. Captain, stand over there. Doctor, it is time for answers--"
*BAM! Kirk backhands him across the face, and it's clobbering time!*

The whole episode trying not to hurt Mirror!Spock, then one serious threat to Kirk's people and Kirk smashes Mirror!Spock across the head so hard that McCoy thinks the man will die unless he gets immediate treatment. (I don't think that was entirely intentional, Mirror!Spock just fought back so hard, thinking he was fighting for his life, that Kirk had to put him down hard). I mean, he's perfectly willing to let McCoy put the man back together afterwards, even happy and grateful that McCoy is willing to, because it's still Spock or someone like him, but even then there was a tiny hesitation first. Mirror!Spock had every intention of torturing Kirk's friend, and Kirk does NOT take that well.

Moral of the story: DO NOT THREATEN KIRK'S PEOPLE.
