Random snippet, not part of anything longer, even though it sounds like it should be. Oh, and I don't think it turned out at all like what I suspect was requested, so apologies there.

BOOM-shakalaka

The world was full of thunder. Roaring, crashing, pounding. Her head pulsed with it, the sound pushing down into her bones, shaking her head apart. It had been increasing steadily over the past hour, and Areebah had had enough of it. She had had enough.

The cramped corridors of the Tethys cleared almost miraculously in front of her as she stormed towards the bridge, as the crew reacted with near-telepathy to the cloud of anger that surrounded her. Well, most of them. She saw Amandis in the Observation Point, his massive bulk settled immovably against the crystal of the Window, his smug grin almost invisible beneath the weight of brass and obsidian that formed his strange eyepiece. She snarled silently at him, flashing her small, brown fist in his direction, and he laughed.

The carved mahogany doors to the bridge were open, settled heavily on the lush carpet inside, and she paused for a moment, as she always did, to appreciate the texture on her bare feet. But the warmth of her feet did not ease the ache in her head, and she strode rapidly down the brass lacework steps into the opulent command center and stomped up to her captain, rising onto the balls of her feet to meet his eyes. "Neehlus, what in Oceanus' name are you doing to my boat!" she cried, and watched as the creased, heavy face of her friend turned to her in surprise. Neehlus blinked ponderously, the lightning flashes of his thoughts almost completely disguised by the weight of his movements. He tilted his head to the side, and smiled gently while she glared.

"Tethys is going home," he said, a quite rumble, full of humour, and she blinked, falling back onto her heels. Following his black, smiling gaze, she turned to look out the forward glass, and stared.

The ice loomed above them, white and dark and heavy, impassive as the iron sheet of the waves thundered against its base. She stared, the thunder echoing inside her, as they passed into the cave, the gleaming white arch closing over the brass of Tethys' hull, the light becoming as deep and blue and heavy as if they were once more beneath the ocean itself. Serene and unconcerned as the ice itself, Tethys drifted forwards through tunneled ice into the vast, frozen cathedral she called home, slipping silent and sure into her berth, her captain's hand firm and quiet at her helm.

"Oh," she said, quietly, and blushed when he smiled at her knowingly. "Alright, then."
