I've just been watching Hornblower with my Dad, and having a ridiculous amount of fun sniffing at him for the arrogant SOB he is, and cheering him in the face of adversity, and bouncing in my seat when he jumps aboard the fireship to save the Indefatigable, and laughing as upright ship's captains act like three-year-olds ...
Basically having fun with a good, old-fashioned adventure story, and it made me think of all the time I spent when I was younger reading all those books that used to be listed under 'Boy's Adventure Stories' in the library. That always annoyed the snot out of me, too, because I was reading them, and I wasn't a boy, now was I? Hmpf! *grin* Stuff like Treasure Island, and Jules Verne, and the Hardy Boys (I still read them, you know), and then later the likes of Flashman and ... gah, I can't remember the titles. Or authors. I remember the gist of every story I ever read, but identifiable info, not so much.
Same went with TV. If it had superheroes, or knights, or pirates, swordfights, or dragons or ships, I was there. Sandokan, Power Rangers, Justice League, Pip the Appleseed Knight (even when I was older) ...
*grin* I guess I've just always been a bit of a tomboy at heart.
