"Look, I don't care what he did! You talk to that Neanderthal boss of yours, and get him to give Casey back!"
The sound of the borderline-hysterical female voice, loud enough to echo for three blocks, had all three brothers by the couch wincing, and actually managed to make Donnie look up from his crystals. Raph met Leo's eyes, taking in Donnie's bemused look, Mikey's fascination, and April's rapidly rising tones, and nodded. Then, grinning slightly, Raph reached over to nudge Mikey with his toe until he fell off the couch, and beamed at the resulting anry confusion.
"Popcorn, slowpoke," he explained, grinning toothily, and winked at Leo as Mikey caught on. Donnie looked over at them, head swivelling between Raph's wicked grin and the female argument from the den, and frowned heavily. Raph smiled brightly at him, the picture of innocence.
"I don't think this is a very good idea," Donnie noted, calmly.
"Aw, come on, Brainiac!" Raph spread his hands. "You tellin' me you never wanted to watch her get mad at someone who wasn't us?" And though the frown never budged, Raph knew the look Donnie wore when he wanted to be persuaded, all scientific curiosity and infantile glee. The Brainiac was in the bag, no prob!
Just as well, too, because the second player in the female drama took that moment to stand up for herself.
"Look, Ms O' Neill, I understand your concern, but the fact is, your fiance was involved in a brawl near the murder site, and is suspected of vigilante actions. Mac is perfectly within his rights to hold him for questioning."
"Vigilante!" April screeched. "Of course! The kind of vigilante who's helped save this city more times than I can count! You know that!" Raph winced, head ducking automatically as if he could dodge the sound-bullet, but he did understand. He wasn't worried, though. Leo and Don had taken care of the evidence earlier, a fact Ms Bonasera was blissfully unaware of, and all Case had to do was keep his mouth shut for a couple more hours ...
On second thoughts, he could see the problem. Oh well. He'd just have to trust the nutjob.
"Yes," Stella answered, heavily. "But Mac doesn't. And unless you want to explain the mutant turtles to him, how do you plan on explaining any of the rest of it?"
Stella was using her calm-down-or-else voice, all soft and implacable stresses, and Raph winced in automatic sympathy. Who for, he wasn't sure, because nothing was more likely to make April explode than someone telling her to 'calm down', and when April exploded, things got interesting real quick. Then again, Ms Bonasera was by no means a slouch herself ... Whoever came out on top, it promised to be a hell of a fight.
Now if only Mikey would hurry up with the popcorn ...
