So, my extra icon spaces expired. *droops* Well, poopy. Heh. (Though, thank you again, [livejournal.com profile] shadadukal. *smiles* They were a lovely run).

Which leaves me having to pick the six that get to stay. Well, actually, the five that get to stay, unless I want to change my default. Which ... I don't, really, even if it's looking a little shook these days. Four years on LJ, that's been me. It's ... probably staying all the way. Heh.

So. Five. And they turned out ... perhaps not what I expected them to be. Few fandom-specific, for a start.

Steampunk. Nebula. Loki. Fantomas. Holding.

Steampunk because it's one of my oldest, the art is gorgeous, and since it does double-duty symbolising comics fandoms, it's useful now that I'm writing Avengers fic.

Nebula because, again, one of my oldest, and because I use it to symbolise wonder, science fiction, SF fandoms, some musing/philosophy posts ... Just generally useful, really, and I'm attached to it. Heh.

Loki is not quite so old. But he's for ... mythology, and magic, and fantasy (though I'll miss Last Unicorn for the more whimsical/childhood end), and also tricksters, conmen (though I'll miss Artie, too), and general sneaky people. Heh. Self-made icon, too, so there's that.

Fantomas is for darker stories/topics. Also historical ones too, I suppose. And pulpy ones. Heh. The turn-of-the-century Lord of Terror. *grins* If I ever start writing Bond fic, he'll be right there too. Another self-made icon, from the original (and awesome) cover art.

And then Holding. Which is one of my newest, and perhaps not near so useful as the others, but ... It's for comfort, and strength, and connection, and I just need that one. I love the image, I love the things it stands for. That is just ... staying. *grins sheepishly*

So. Huh. Mostly, I'm guessing I'm saving the ones with the broadest uses. Also the ones that ... I'm fond of and that have meaning, without being attached to fandoms (which I tend to blitz through a lot -_-;). *smiles* Though ... I'm not quite sure what it says about me, that of the options available ... those are the five I keep. A Trickster God, a Lord of Terror, a rather beautiful nebula, two Korean War soldiers keeping each other safe, and a fanart of one of my own stories.

*grins sheepishly, shakes head* Come to think of it ... that probably says most of what you need to know about me, doesn't it? Heh.

ETA: No, no. Heh. [livejournal.com profile] shadwrayvn gifted me with another year's worth. *grins faintly* Thank you, hon, and please disregard this message.

*muses* I watched a trailer for The Artist recently, in the video shop. Hmm.

I'd been vaguely aware of the hype surrounding it, but to be honest I wasn't really paying attention to it before. It hadn't properly crossed my radar. But after seeing that trailer ...

I'd thought they'd been making a movie about the silent movie era. I hadn't realised they were apparently making an actual silent movie. A black-and-white, silent movie, made in the modern era.

I don't even know what it's about. I possibly don't particularly care. Because just that, all on its own ... I just love the form. I LOVE silent movies, and the idea of a modern one, made in celebration of them ... I love that. I think I need to see the movie, when it comes out on DVD. Even if it's utter shite. Just ... just for that. Heh.

Because me and silent movies ... we go back aways.

My mother is trying to teach my father how to play Majong Tiles (the computer game), mostly by back-seat playing it on him (you don't want to do that, D, you want to match the nines, there, see ...).

I suspect this will end in bloodshed. Even without the fact she started him on the turtle layout, which is a bitch on the best of days. *facepalms*
