I keep trying to write out a scene from my original story (Southwark), just, you know, for test purposes. The problem is, that story comes with about five metric tonnes of backstory, and every time I try to pick a scene, I think about having to explain all that, and wondering if I should pick an earlier scene again, and it's gotten to the point where I'm hearing Neddy Seagoon in my head: "And this is where the story really starts!"

If any of you have ever spent time with the Goon Show, you'll know why this is not a good thing to be having in your head when you're trying to write very serious political fic involving elves. *nods solemnly, grins*
