I was trying to do that meme thing where you put your playlist on shuffle, and write drabbles to the songs. That ... didn't work so well, as it turns out I can only write to music when I'm ignoring it, treating it as ambient sound. I can't pay attention to both song and writing at the same time.
But. I did get two interesting match-ups of song and character from it, one for Nikola and one for John. Not sure if I'll get fic out of them, but perhaps that's just as well.

A Bond Theme for a megalomaniac, and Miami Vice for a killer:
The World Is Not Enough (Garbage) - Nikola Tesla
I'm not sure how he'd feel about being matched to a Bond Theme. But. Nikola's megalomania, and his willingness to fight, in a nutshell. There's no point living, if you can't feel alive. Knowing what to show, what to conceal. When to kiss, when to kill, or at least he tries. And if he can't have it all, then nobody will, as the Cabal rather found out. And if you're strong enough, together we can take the world apart, my love. The thing about Nikola, though, is that he takes things apart so he can figure out how to put them back together, better. But the world ... really isn't enough, for him. Or for Helen, for that matter. They will always, always need something more to fight for. But the world ... is such a lovely place to start ...
You Belong to the City (Glenn Frey) - John Druitt
This one for the sense of isolation, the futility. Living in a river of darkness, beneath the neon lights. I'm not sure if John was born in the city, but the Ripper certainly was. The man of the street, preying in its shadows, the killer in every motion. The sense of belonging to some uncaring thing, unable to ever fully escape it. When you said goodbye, you were on the run, trying to get away from the things you'd done. Now you're back again, and you're feeling strange. So much has happened, but nothing has changed. And it begins to look like nothing ever will. There are moments, like there are in the song, where he thinks he can make it, escape, endure ... And then. He still belongs to what possesses him. This one was very John, I thought.
