In which I flatter myself outrageously, and regret none of it.

If I were a month,I'd be March, full of frost and the breath of expectation
If I were a day of the week, I'd be Thursday, because I've never gotten the hang of Thursdays
If I were a time of day, I'd be that strange twilight just before dawn
If I were a planet, I'd be Saturn, unique and magnificent
If I were a sea animal, I'd be a plankton, imersed so deep as to be part of it
If I were a direction, I'd be east, where the world rolls towards dawn
If I were a piece of furniture, I'd be a sofa, wide and comfy and deep
If I were a liquid, I'd be meltwater, trickling freed through the world
If I were a tree, I'd be ash, where all energies meet
If I were a flower, I'd be daisy, yellow-heart to follow the sun
If I were a kind of weather, I'd be frost, cold, clean and clear, with a hint of mist
If I were a musical instrument, I'd be the bell, summons and song
If I were a color, I'd be indigo, colour of twilight
If I were an emotion, I'd be wonder, bright breathless awe and love
If I were a fruit, I'd be raspberry, tart and sweet
If I were a sound, I'd be the whisper of the wind
If I were an element, I'd be void, that cradles all
If I were a car, I'd be classic, old and powerful
If I were a food, I'd be sorbet, light and tart and to be indulged in only on occasion
If I were a place, I'd be the line where sea touched shore, ever moving
If I were a taste, I'd be something subtle and spicy, maybe cinnamon
If I were a scent, I'd be tang of frozen orange
If I were an object, I'd be a used teacup, stained and warm and delicate
If I were a body part, I'd be a hand, intricate, flexible and strong
If I were a facial expression, I'd be a crinkled smile, worn around the edges
If I were a song, I'd be a lullaby without words, nonsense whispered on the edge of dreams
