Socks and Snuggling

James couldn't move, and he wasn't entirely sure what to do about it. For a fairly skinny man, Nikola was surprisingly heavy. And also surprisingly clingy. Apparently the vampire, once committed to something, was exceptionally difficult to budge.

James looked down at him in bemusement. The man was completely and unashamedly naked, except for, rather bizarrely, his socks. True, they had been somewhat more focused on James' clothing than Nikola's, but he was still fairly sure they shouldn't have missed those. Not that Nikola seemed overly bothered by them, mind. The vampire had curled his legs up, tucking his wooly feet up under James' calves, curling in a loose loop around James. One heavy arm wrapped almost possessively around James' stomach, beneath the mechanism, holding him in place. Nikola's head was tucked under James' arm, his nose brushing James' ribs, breath tickling rather annoyingly. A soft, compact ball of vampire, wrapped determinedly and somewhat immovably around James.

James watched him, resting his chin on his chest, looking down at the tuft of dark hair under his arm, feeling the weight of the arm around his waist and the soft whuffling of breath against his ribs, listening to the vague murmurs Nikola made in his sleep. If he was perfectly honest, James hadn't the first clue what to do with him. He knew he should probably move the man, if only to be able to move himself, lie down properly and try to sleep. He should ... poke him, perhaps, until he woke back up. Shove him sideways, at least, let James shuffle down the bed. James' bed. He was perfectly entitled to budge sleepy vampires out of the way in his own bed.

But ... For some strange reason that James wasn't inclined to examine too closely, he didn't really want to. He didn't want to move Nikola, didn't want to wake him. Didn't want to budge that warm, heavy arm, didn't want to disturb that soft, snuffled breathing. James didn't ... James didn't usually actually sleep with those who shared his bed. Not in the non-euphemistic sense, at least. And, true, he wasn't exactly sleeping right now, but then, he didn't sleep as much as he used to anyway, these days. He just ... didn't really want to move the man.

And perhaps, from the small smile he could feel curving against his ribs, the tiny curl of a lip that couldn't hide from his senses ... perhaps Nikola was perfectly aware of it. Perhaps Nikola knew, and would be insufferably smug about it in the morning. But really, that was only to be expected from Nikola Tesla, and well worth the present benefits.

James smiled a little himself, tucked his arm around Nikola's shoulders, managed to worm his legs under Nikola's socked feet, and settled in for a far more pleasant night of lying awake than his usual.
