Just thinking about fantasy lately, and fantasy on the big and little screens. You know how fantasy TV is back in, these days? And also historical dramas, and stuff like that? What with Game of Thrones and LOTR and The Hobbit and Rome and Vikings and The Borgias and all?

I want to see a TV series of The Queen's Thief series, by Megan Whalen Turner. So much.

Specifically, I want to see Queen of Attolia/King of Attolia, the middle two books. Thief might be complicated, but I think could probably be outlined in flashback while doing the plots of those two. Conspiracy I'm not sure on. I wouldn't mind, I mean. But I really, REALLY want the middle two books as a TV series.

It would be awesome, you see. Queen's Thief is kind of like The Borgias or I, Claudius, except culture-wise set in an alternate ancient Greece/Persia (with the mythology and gods to match), and tech-wise in Renaissance-level Europe (they have rudimentary pistols, among other things). And anyone who likes the political wranglings of GOT or the Borgias should love it, and anyone who likes trickster heroes should adore it, and anyone who likes it when the good guys hold their own in that kind of environment, and then leave that environment in the dust to politically and physically kick everyone's asses ...

I would pay to see Eugenides on screen. You have no idea. I would cheerfully shell out whatever was required. He's like Petyr Littlefinger, if Littlefinger was unequivocally the GOOD guy (and also a lot more badass, physically).

And Queen of Attolia would be such an awesome place to start, I think. If we cold-opened on the thief and the Magus, as the night above the Sounisian harbour starts to burn red ... Yeah. Oh yeah. That would be an awesome place to start, no?

I just ... I would like a gritty fantasy-historical TV series where there are moral greys and bad things that need to be done, but the good guys still win, and never forget the difference between attempted justifications of the horrible things you want to do, and the genuinely necessary evils that you have to do.

Plus. Costis. I would quite like to see poor Costis.

*shrugs, smiles* As I said. I was just thinking, since I've been having some conversations with people on this lately. The Queen's Thief would make the most perfect TV series ever, I think. Done well, of course, but that's always the caveat, no? Heh.
