Today was my first day on work placement.

I've just spent six solid hours tabulating six months of handwritten visitor logs into an Excel spreadsheet. Just under 700 rows of information. 'Irish' no longer looks like a real word, and I'm thanking all the gods of technology that I remembered to save pretty much every couple of minutes or so.

That was my first day on work placement. And the office was full of tables and chairs because we'd just cleared out one of the group rooms, so I was doing this wedged into a table in the café instead (on a laptop). For some reason, the café staff kept coming over to ask me if I needed more coffee or a cookie or something. I suspect maybe I was muttering numbers to myself? They were really nice, but I think they probably think I'm insane now.

On top of everything else, this was the first time I've used Excel in something like 6 years? Crash course, oh my.

But hey. Six months worth of logs in six hours, that probably wasn't too bad? She didn't give me a time limit, just said do that and get back to her. And it's been a while since I used Excel. And it took me a while to figure out what was going on with the extra block of log sheets stuck in the middle, that was for an event, I managed to get that blocked in in red and by date so it should be recognisable. It just took me a while to figure out what the sheets were (note to receptionists, please make note of these things?). And the week around that event, there were logs from those dates scattered over about five other log sheets, wedged in on the bottoms of things, so I had to go back up through a couple of months and stick in extra rows here or there.

On the upside, I now have a pretty clear idea of who's been coming to the place for the past six months, how they found out about it, and what nationalities they were. I also have a pretty good idea who can't keep a log sheet to save their lives, and what to do if I'm ever on the reception desk and want the people in admin not to kill me -_-; And I can pilot a spreadsheet like nobody's business.

*blinks rapidly* So. This job's off to a smashing start? Oi vey. *collapses in a heap*
