Random Me

Today in work, my co-worker/boss type person discovered that I do not know how to use Facebook (yes, honestly, I've never gone near the place), and that when I sneak a few minutes online instead of transcribing names from historical documents, I don't do anything normal like (for a random example) check Facebook. Instead, I was looking up Chinese Dynasties, and TV Tropes was teaching me handy mnemonic for the major ones sung to the tune of Frère Jacques -_-;

For the record, said mnemonic goes thusly:

Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han. Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han.
Sui, Tang, Song. Sui, Tang, Song.
Yuan, Ming, Qing, Republic. Yuan, Ming, Qing, Republic.
Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong.

The other day I was looking up Iranian castles (I think I bounced there from Zoroastrianism, but the castles are fascinating and often impressive, both in terms of age and structure - also, it's not in Iran but in Dagestan, but the history of the city of Derbent is fascinating) and Otto von Bismarck (an Austrian lady came in, so I was hurriedly checking that yes, they speak German, which led to looking up Austria, which linked to Bismarck fairly automatically once we got up to the 19th century and the efforts towards German reunification). I work in heritage/tourism, I figured I should limit my personal research during work hours at least to the right discipline? *grins sheepishly* It was just for breaks after staring at the same document for a solid hour in between customers, so he didn't mind too much.

Oh. I also led my second tour. But yeah. Most of today seemed to be my boss sort of finding out that yeah, I'm kind of weird -_-; That, and spending probably about four hours in between customers and tours and lunch trying to crunch three different historical sources into a usable list of names and dates. Including figuring out that yes, the three people we had down under [first name][surname] were in fact the same man, he was just apparently involved in every event going around that period, and one source is a little hinky regarding which town he's originally from. One of the other ones is his autobiography, though, so I think we'll go with that one.

Augh! Long day. *rubs face* I need to sleep tonight, oh, so much. *smiles crookedly*
