*slumps* And we're back visiting the hospital every other day (my granddad). This has been an alarmingly regular occurence the past few years. *shakes head* And it really screws with your energy levels and scheduling (hospital half an hour both ways, plus actual visit = two hours or more per visit). Also the visits themselves are ... not fun. Exhausting.

*scrubs face* Sorry for being slow and spotty again lately. Between work and hospital, there hasn't been a lot of time. Or energy, more to the point.

On the upside, work is going well. I think, anyway. I'm pretty sure. Today was terrible, but that was because a) shirty customer threatening to diss us in the book he's writing if he doesn't get better service (??), b) somebody rearranged the main desk since last week, meaning that among other things, my notes were missing and I had to redo them from scratch, and c) I'd forgotten an appointment next Monday, meaning I have to work extra this week to make up for having to take that day. Rarghle! Frustration and petty annoyance abounds.

Could just be I'm tired, though. Yeurrgh. I'm scrambly, yes? *mauls face*

Actual upside, I finished the Hand of Thrawn duology from the Star Wars EU today. It's the first EU I've read. And yes, I'm aware it's a very weird place to start, but I was convinced to try the EU mostly by someone finding a character type I liked, and pointing out the EU incarnation of it. In this particular case, said character was Gilad Pellaeon (weary man of honour in a tyrannical/corrupt/crumbling ediface, yes, I do like those), and the HoT duology was the first set of books involving him that I could get my hands on. It probably spoilered a lot of things, and referenced a crap tonne more that I had no background on, but the plot itself was interesting and the characters were lovely, so it worked well enough. I could roll with it, anyway.

Mostly because I did, in fact, like Pellaeon. I like him a lot. Also Lando, I'm never unhappy to see Lando. And Talon Karrde and his crew are fascinating ([livejournal.com profile] shadadukal, your name and journal title make a lot more sense to me now -_-;). I'm 15 years of apparently very complicated events after the timeframe of the movies, but I can catch up, I think? Maybe focusing on Pellaeon, Han/Leia, Lando, Karrde's crew, and possibly Wedge Antilles? Recs welcome, by the by. I'm not really concerned about spoilers, and if I read Hand of Thrawn before reading the Thrawn trilogy, I gather I'm pretty okay with massive references to events I haven't read yet -_-;

But, hey, I enjoyed it. *smiles* Which, given current climate around here, says quite a lot in the EUs favour. Heh.

And I'll leave you without a dozen other cuts, I think. *shakes head at self*
