Just a handful of recs from my first run through.
Festivids Recs 2014:
Au Port (The Triplets of Belleville)
... A grandmother crosses the ocean to rescue her kidnapped cyclist grandson from the mafia, and finds help in three grenade-wielding ex-cabaret singers. It's ... Like the movie, the vid kind of has to been seen to be believed. It's amazing, though.
Renaissance! (Pleasantville)
I have a lot of complicated feelings about this movie, and this vid gives such an overview of them. The building intensity as it follows the colour, passions and violence that burst through the script of the idealised fictional world. It's ... I actually love this movie. Betty in particular. This vid shows so many of the reasons why. I love it.
Fear and Loathing (Natsume Yuujinchou)
This is such an incredibly portrait of Natsume, the life his ability has led him to lead, the effects its had on him, and the way he changes over the course of the series. God, this one hit me right in the heart.
Small Town Moon (Men In Black)
The vid in which Agent K unexpectedly breaks your heart into itty bitty pieces. Wow. That came out of nowhere. K.
The Other Man (Man From UNCLE)
I had forgotten this episode completely. This vid reminds me why that was a bad plan. Napolean Solo vs Ricardo Montalbán's Satine in spy-vs-spy, with some rival shipping thrown in by the song, and it is fantastic. Caro Emerald is a perfect fit. There's just so much glee and skill and competition and attraction and joy in this vid. I adore it.
Hue (The Curse of the Golden Flower)
This one is an incredible visual assault of building intensity and violence, and with an amazing theme of blood and gilt, and the attempt to disguise the one with the other. Visually amazing.
Clu-oops (Clue)
This movie is quite simply the gift that keeps on giving. This vid is hilarious. Murder should not be so funny, and certainly not when set to Brittney Spears, but it is. It really, really is.
Seven Devils (Dragonheart)
I would attempt to be eloquent here, but I cried like a baby the first time I saw this movie, and this vid brings the whole damn thing rushing back so hard. Kara, Bowen, Draco.
Let's Go (Young Men Dead) (Lawrence of Arabia)
This is just flat amazing. Just the sheer ... the sheer scope and scale and drama and cost of everything, on the scales individual to international. This is incredible.
Love That Bomb (Dr Strangelove)
... All I can say is, the effect of watching this vid is much the same as the effect of watching the movie. There are things that should not be that bleaky hilarious.
Dance! (Armour of God series)
I haven't actually seen these movies, but I suspect you'd watch them for the same reasons you watch this vid: Jackie Chan having hilarious misadventures with awesome stunts and amazing physicality. Also, fun. Lots and lots of unapologetic, cheesy fun.
Hard Way Home (Cloudburst)
Again, I haven't seen this, but now I really want to. It's honest and vulgar and funny and sad and tender and sweet. It looks like these two have one hell of a relationship.
