Saw this going around, and wanted to get in on the fun.

a) Post a list of 20 fandoms
b) Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each one (I have multiple favs in some, so the bracketted no. beside it tells you how many)
c) When guessed, bold the line, include the character name, and write a sentance/paragraph on why you like that character

1) DC comics (2)
Jen guessed J'onn. I just love my poor Martian. The tragedy of him, the gentleness, the strength, the sly humour, the urge to look after everyone ... I could go on!
*And* Jen guessed Alfred. How could I *not*. The man is patience, perseverance, caring and wit incarnate. Without Alfred, there would never have been any Bruce, and without Bruce, no batclan. Alfred is sly, sneaky, can say volumns without ever opening his mouth, and when he puts his foot down, the gods themselves listen. *Love*

2) DCAU (2)
Ilyena got J'onn. I love any version of him, but the toonverse J'onn had these lovely moments of snark, like when Lobo tried to join the league, and some lovely moments of heart-rending-ness (if that's a word), like when he sorta emotionally blackmailed the league into getting back together when John was trying to make them train, by saying that he could survive the loss of a second family. Toonverse J'onn is a little evil, but lots of lovely!

3) Trek TOS
Jen guessed Bones. I love the southern gentleman in space, I love his passion, the compassion he tried to shied behind crankiness, his little arguements with Spock, the fact he cares so much for everyone. *sigh* Love.

4) Trek TNG
Jen guessed Q. And as she says, he's coy, and elusive, and may just have a heart after all. He's annoying and snarky and selfish and omnipotent (most of the time), but he's also lonely, a little lost, and I don't think anyone's ever said thank you to him in his life. His face when Picard says it for the first time ... Plus, he keeps having these flashes of genuine heroism, which he dresses up in arrogant flamboyance so people won't actually realise it. *sigh* Love him.

5) DBZ (2)
Ilyena also got Vegeta. Oh, let me count the ways. He's dark, was originally a villain, and is the most honourable bastard you're gonna meet. I was recently rewatching the Frieze saga and ... oh my. The amount of times he saved Gohan & co, and pretended it meant nothing whatsoever, his little rants about being a genius, his need to be as good as Kakarot, his grudging respect despite his jealousy ... so much to love, so little space to write!

6) Doctor Who, Classic

7) Ouran High School Host Club (Leave me alone. I *like* overdosing on sugar)
Voland444 guessed Kyouya. Who, naturally, is adored by many, many people of a certain disposition. But I love him because he's snarky, sneaky, manipulative, money-obsessed, determined, soooo not a morning person, and because once you have made him your friend, every ruthless, manipulative bone in his body becomes determined to protect you. He's the shadow king, who takes care of them all while pretending not to care, he plays the villain to teach you what you need to know (where he pretended to try and rape Haruhi, oh lordy, and his face when she called him kind for it), and he never expects to be appreciated for it. And his painting ... Oh my.

8) Saiyuki
Jen guessed Hakkai. The human turned youkai, the man who lost everything in one fell swoop, the man who tried for venegance and by the gods did he make them pay, but in the end realised that even that would not bring her back. Hakkai is polite, patient, prone to deadly little smiles, plays the mom of the group, and when he takes off the limiters he's nearly a match for *Goku*. Serious power, serious pain, serious humour. Serious love..

9) Les Miserables

10) Labyrinth

11) Muppets (2)
Jen guessed Statler and Waldorff. Purely for the heckling! The fabulous heckling. *snicker* They're such fun!

12) Babylon 5 (3)
Stalinglim guessed Marcus. Everybody loves him, but there's a *reason*. Sense of humour, sense of honour, determination, willingness to sacrifice everything for what he believes in and the woman he loves. Love his whole exchange with Susan about pretending to be a Vorlon to convince the Elders to join in, and the "We live for the one, we die for the one" speech. And his couple of scenes with Neroon were precious!

13) Blake's 7 (3)
Jen guessed Avon. Cold, brilliant, absolutely determined to never owe loyalty to anyone, to never show anyone he cares, to never sacrifice anything of himself for anyone ... and failing miserably at all of them. Sneaky, sarcastic, even cruel, betrayed by too many, driven to final homocidal madness by one too many betrayals, yet at the end capable of seeing the grand irony of his life. Smiling with his last breath. How could you *not* love him?

14) Discworld (2)

15) Norse Mythology
Jen guessed Tyr. The god of the forests, of quiet strength, one of the few to survive Ragnarok. But it was Fenrir that clinched it, and the story speaks for itself. Friendship with the monstrous son of the enemy. When Tyr was forced by his duty to betray that, to use the trust Fenrir had in him to chain him, he gave Fenrir his hand to hold in his jaw as collateral, knowing full well that Fenrir would be betrayed, and would take the limb. He allowed his friend the little vengence he could, and took it on himself to spare those who forced him to betrayal in the first place.

16) Star Risk Ltd, by Chris Bunch

17) LA Confidential

18) Dresden Files (the books!) (3)
Voland444 guessed Gentleman John Marcone. I realise people are probably bored by my gushing about him, but there's so much for me to love about him. The gentleman mobster with money-coloured eyes and a tiger's soul, utterly ruthless, absolutely honourable (anyone noticing a theme, here?), prone to coming down (for absolutely despicable reasons, of course) on the side of angels. He's fierce, no-nonsense, and will stand up to anything, and I mean anything, to protect his people, his city and his business. To top it off, he has a horror of seeing innocents get hurt, and will go out of his way, even risk his life, to see it doesn't happen. Gods, but I love this man!

Voland444 got Donald Morgan too. He's not one of those popular guys, even among the characters themselves. He's rigid, authoritarian, and never, ever gives *anyone* the benefit of the doubt. Working as the magical equivilent to a cop, in the perpetual grey areas of magic use, a black-&-white worldview is not a good thing to have. But there's a reason. He's so tired, and so hurt by everything he's seen in his time, that dividing the world into clear right-&-wrong is the only way he can stay sane. And despite it all, when push comes to shove, he's a good man, a loyal cop, and he tries to do the honourable thing. In the first book, even though he hates Harry, and thinks he's just a really bad wizard waiting to happen, he still goes in and saves him, because it's the right thing to do. He's learning, and by gods it's hard for him, to put aside his pride and admit that there's another way to look at things, but he's doing it. Because it's the right thing to do. And at the end of the day, that's what matters to him. And to me.

Voland444 guessed Waldo Butters. He's certainly an acquired taste. Small little morgue attendant who happens to have invented what Harry coined the 'Quasimodo Pollka', he's not a typical fav. But for a little man stuck in a world of big, bad wizards, zombie T-rexs and torturing ex-demon-slaves, he does alright. He's brave in a terrified kind of way, fights where he can, plays where he can, heals where he can. And I love him forever for the line "Sleep is God. Go worship!" If only I could ...

19) A-Team
Jen (again) guessed Face. I love shapeshifters, and the human ones who can't literally change shape are only more intruiging. I love the contrast between Face and Hannibal, between the con and the actor, how Hannibal makes you think he's someone else, but Face makes you believe that he's anything you damn well want him to be. I love the scrounger, the playboy, the masks and the pain, the games and the desire for something real behind it all. I love how he's so good as living a lie, but all he wants is a real life.
