Not what I should be doing, by any stretch of the imagination, but I plan to get up early tomorrow to finish the essay, so ... You get this. Heh. Owes some inspiration to [livejournal.com profile] dbalthasar's awesome vampire AU starting in Choices, though this one starts somewhere else.

Title: Blood Offering

Summary: An AU to Revelations. As James fails in front of them, Nikola proposes a solution that may have drastic ramifications

Short, rough thing. I'm working in short bursts between essays, so it's probably clumsily done -_-; Let me know if you notice mistakes, yes?

Title: Gestures
Rating: PG
Fandom: Sanctuary
Characters/Pairings: John, Helen, Gregory, the Five. John/Helen
Summary: After finding out about the Source Blood, Gregory invites Helen's friends for a little tete-a-tete. John ... disapproves
Wordcount: 1291
Warnings/Notes: Set in 1886, possibly early 1887. More a character study than anything. Also? I'm not particularly fond of Gregory

Running around the place at the minute, vaguely panicking. Never mind. Have some really random fly-by thoughts:

I've been watching snippets of Fritz Lang's Metropolis (which I adore, by the by - silent movies have a particular ... something ... and this proto-type of sci-fi film was always going to find a soft spot in my heart). And ...

There's a section in the Irish Leaving Cert Exam for English, where you're tasked to compare and contrast three texts on certain themes, genre conventions, etc. And thinking about that, and thinking about Metropolis, and idly browsing Sanctuary on TV Tropes ... got me to thinking. Because apparently, aside from drawing huge inspiration from the Bible and the story of the Tower of Babel (which is interesting in a Sanctuary context anyway), apparently the film drew enough on Victorian melodramas and proto-sci-fi that HG Wells apparently complained that he was being plagarised. Which ... made me look at them, and that led to ...

The Five watching Metropolis. Or perhaps the remaining four of them, in 1927, watching Metropolis. Or later, so much later, because there are so many periods of their lives that echo with that film ...

Copy-and-pasted from this thread, wherein I babble confusedly at [livejournal.com profile] shadadukal. Copy-and-pasted because I'm too tired to force them into something coherant right now, but wanted to put them up to see if someone else could manage. Heh.

Title: That Does Not Flinch
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Sanctuary
Characters/Pairings: Helen Magnus, mentions of everyone
Summary: She has gathered those who do not flinch
Wordcount: 771
Warnings/Notes: Um. Sort of harder take on Helen

Look, before anyone asks, when I'm tired and stressed, I tend to take notions. Random, strange things that lead ... well, to things like this -_-; Though I'm partially blaming John Druitt for this, for that line in FKAC that helped spark this one: "Like a theater troupe". Which bounced me to the darker side of Victorian entertainment, and further, to the dark sides of circuses, and gave you ... this.

Title: The Great and Secret Show

Summary: Roll up, roll up. Come, ladies and gentlemen. Come see the secrets at the heart of Empire - a very skewed view on the Five

Okay, so I just watched Warriors for the first time (I'm very behind on Season 1). And ... I really don't like Gregory Magnus. Um. At all.

More or less random thing. I think I actually managed every possible pair within the Five.

Characters/Pairings: James, John, Helen, Nigel, Nikola, in various permutations

Coming from a discussion with [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra, and after reading her awesome meta on Helen-as-Persephone. These are just my impressions on who the Sanctuary cast matches with in Graeco-Roman mythology (on which I'm quite shaky in places, keep in mind):

Just ... I've noticed, writing the Five, that the writing ... changes, depending on which of them I'm focusing on. Of course, my writing always changes with different characters, but it's ... interesting, the shape of it with the Five.

With Nigel, it's ... solid, steady, dirty and present and grounded. Things happen moment to moment, in Nigel's world, and are solidly linked. With Helen ... there's always this sense of repressed energy, just running under the surface of her, and the writing sort of ... sparks around her. Ideas catch around each other. With James, things are more ... the word 'delicate' springs to mind, though perhaps 'precise' may be better, a series of exacted points threaded together. With John ... oh, with John, it's dark and airy, a skim across some vast dark space, surging sometimes against something, rich and bright.

And Nikola ... it's hard to tell, for me, simply because all my stories have sort of been about him so far. *grins sheepishly* But ... He feels somewhat like Helen, in some ways, in that there's always this current of energy, this rush from idea to idea, but with him ... there's a darker undercurrent to his, something a little like John. But with Nikola, the energy is rushing over the dark spaces, while with John, it's rushing from it. If ... that makes any sense at all.

*blinks some* And it has just occurred to me that all of that is rather strange, and I should probably shut up now. *grins* Brought to you by random introspection, and apologies. Heh.
