Given recent shenanigans and the fact that I'm posting here less and less anyway, I'm planning to leave LJ altogether and delete this journal :(

I'm currently backing up my entries to my dreamwidth account. Once that's finished, I'll probably wait a day or so and then delete this journal. I'm also on AO3 and tumblr, and probably use those two more than anything else lately.

It's been a nice ride, folks.

I have to say, whatever else about this job, I am developing a liking for doing the records. There's just something fundamentally satisfying about handwriting information in a big, leatherbound book. One that has latin headings on the columns and everything. I just ... I like that. It just satisfies. It really does.

If anyone here is already on tumblr, do you have any advice for a Luddite thinking of joining up? Any general is-this-a-good-idea or how-to-use advice. Also, if anyone has an idea of how tumblr works with fanfic, etiquette or if fanfic even works on the site, I'd be interested in that in particular. I've been maybe thinking about joining for a while, I've a text doc with interesting tumblr posts on my laptop, but the site itself still looks bewildering and weird to me. So, um. If anyone has any advice, I'd be grateful.

Edit: Okay. So I made an account. honourablejester on tumblr, at your service. So. If anyone wants to help me figure out how to use it, please feel free, and my thanks to those who've already offered advice. Thank you!

On a completely different and personal note, there is a heavy cold or a flu going through the house, I'm not sure which. My face feels like someone's repeatedly punched it, particularly around my cheekbones and that place where your jaw comes in under your ears, and my throat feels like I'm swallowing glass.

I'm currently a joy to be around, is what I'm saying. Heh.

Apparently, LJ is going down the tubes again, this time at speed. I'm going to be backing up my fic to a couple of locations:

- I'll be backing up my original fics to my dreamwidth (which I haven't used in two years, because I don't multitask very well -_-;). If LJ goes completely or I get booted off, DW will be where I move for journaling as well. *muses* I might move some of the more coherent meta essays over there too, if I've got the time. *winces*

- I'll be backing up any fanfic not already there to AO3. All my Avengers fic is already over there, aside from small things, as is most of my smaller fandom stuff and anything written post-2012 (I think). The main things I haven't sent across yet are things on the DC, SPN and Sanctuary lists.

That'll be another big job, though, and I don't have a lot of time right now, so does anyone have any stories they'd like me to back over there as a matter of priority? Or any of the smaller things that I might have missed that you haven't seen over there? Also, any non-fic posts you'd like me to copy over onto DW, either, for whatever reasons?

*sighs* I hate having to move.
Saw it floating around, thought why not. For the record? AIs kick all the ass. *nods sagely*

I have recently figured out both the profile 'statistics' function and the 'sort and filter' function on AO3. Just in time to spot this meme going around. Yay me?

But anyway. Have an AO3 Meme:

*muses* Do I want to put up the Annotated version of Sing the Space Electric as a chapter on the AO3 version? Is that allowed? Or wise?
... It took me way, waaay too long to realise that if you edit a story on AO3, it bumps it back up the list order on the site. I wondered why I kept losing track of stories on a tags search if I editted them -_-;

See, I tend to do this thing where I write my best stuff at around four in the morning. And then I post it up, because otherwise I can't sleep with it sitting there (my neuroses, let me show you them). And then I go crash out for however many hours I'm allowed to sleep, and some time the next day, I will actually go back and read whatever the hell I posted, and find all the four-in-the-morning, what-were-you-thinking typos. And I will edit the story to fix them. About twelve odd hours after I first posted it, usually.

Which, I'm now realising, keeps the story bouncing around the day's story listings on AO3, because the site thinks I'm updating or something.

Um. I really, sincerely apologise for this -_-;

(I have tried just saving the story to post the next morning, but every time I do, I reliably find myself back downstairs at half-five in the morning thinking itchily what I did wrong, wondering if I'm supposed to keep writing - I write in solid blocks, usually, one piece at a time, which is why so much of my stuff is as segmented as it is - and I can't get to sleep unless the thing is posted, and thus mentally designated 'finished' in my head).

Um. So. Yes. Apologies for my weird writing habits bouncing stuff around on people, yes? *ducks sheepishly*
I've now just passed one hundred and sixty thousand (160,000) words of Avengers fanfic, since April. *blinks*

And before you ask, I'm blaming the fact that it's my first AO3 fandom for the fact that I'm actually calculating these things. I noticed that AO3 automatically tallies the total wordcount for series for you (Weregild apparently weighed in at 40k by the end, Nigel&Nikola at 25k. Arrangements hit 90k before I ran out of steam. Wind at Midnight made 55k, and Gotham Noir made it to 36k before I failed out of it too. JARVIS is currently weighing in at 27k), and the rest was history. *grins sheepishly*

... Which means that, in five years on LJ, across four main phase fandoms (SPN/GO, Sanctuary, DC, Avengers), in six long stories/verses (3 completed, 2 failed out, 1 ongoing), I've written something in excess of two hundred and seventy three thousand (273,000) words. *blinks a lot* On six stories.

Um. I spend a lot of time on this hobby? *grins sheepishly* Oi. Understatement, maybe. Heh.

Does anyone know why Situational Analysis isn't linking forward to Hand Under Sword in the header? I mean, it lists itself as Part 4 of Creation-Connection and Part 7 of JARVIS, but doesn't acknowledge that Hand Under Sword exists as Part 5/8, even though both series count HUS as part of them. Um. Does anyone know why?

Although, this is only in the header. The series continuation at the end of the fic does link forward to HUS. *shrugs, baffled*

I've just sent the Nigel/Nikola series over to AO3. *smiles tiredly* Apparently, the series as a whole weighs in at some 26,600 words. Huh.

Looking at moving more of the Sanctuary masterlist over now. Heh.

I'm in the process of porting over mythology related fics. I was just wondering ... Should I/would I be allowed to port over the Mythology meme? Because it's not technically a fic, it's just a collection of fic scenarios. It's just ... also rather funny. *smiles sheepishly*

And, while we're on the subject? I'd forgotten I'd a pure Norse myth fic. And a pure Greek myth fic. Huh. I need to scrounge around more, so I do.

*cries in exhaustion* Okay. So. The main arc of Weregild has been ported over to AO3. And wow, that took it out of me. *flumps* I should put up the extra bits and bobs from that 'verse, but ... I think I'm gonna wait on that. Oi. *collapses*

As in, my top 10 (actually 11) stories by hits, and my least favoured stories by hits (again, 11). And I'm mostly thinking this meme is an indication of which fandoms are more active than others, but howandever.

I should also mention that the first story I posted on AO3 was posted 16 days ago. As in, this is the activity I've gotten in roughly two weeks.

Interesting, I think, primarily for fandoms and fandom activity. Probably not too much of an indication of me as a writer, I think. Though I could be wrong. *grins sheepishly* Oh. And thanks to all who browsed around over there. *ducks head* Thanks.

Random AO3 thought (I've 105 stories ported over! Yay!). You know the 'Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings' button? I'm not completely sure I'm using it the right way. *sheepish* Generally, I'm using one of the main warnings if applicable, and 'No Warnings Apply' if applicable, and 'Choose Not To Warn' if I think there's something that probably needs warning for, but none of the listed warnings apply, and I want people to step careful just in case. As in, using 'Choose Not To Warn' instead of 'No Warnings Apply' implies there might be something, so people go more carefully? Um. Does that make sense?

To my AO3. *rubs bridge of nose tiredly* Okay. I've been porting over most of the non-main-phase fandoms. I've moved across more HL, more GO, Dresden Files, Babylon 5, Sherlock Holmes, some DC. Haven. Stargate Atlantis. I'm trying to decide at present how much of my old Blake's 7 fic I want to admit to. Ditto ST:TNG. *shrugs sheepishly* I've written some ... questionable stuff, over the years, yes?

I also ported over the nine completed chapters of Gotham Noir, despite it having lain unfinished for ages, because I discovered that AO3 has an 'abandoned/unfinished' tag, and I'm still really, really proud of the story. *grins sheepishly*

There are also a lot of smaller ficlets that I'm wondering whether I should bother with or not. *muses* Not sure.

Now the main thing, I think, is working out how much of the main-phase fandoms I want to go up. I'm inclined to leave most of them to the LJ masterlists. But ...

Any suggestions/requests?

On my AO3. Right. I'm staying away from the fandoms with LJ masterlists for the moment, so Sanctuary and SPN aren't really over there, yet. GO is going over, the non-SPN-crossovers anyway. Some DC stuff is going over, because that masterlist isn't worth crap. I'm working on moving the Highlander stuff over.

So far, I've moved 60+ stories across. Fandoms include: POTC, Highlander, Good Omens, DCU, Dresden Files, Tin Man, Buffy (in crossover, mostly), ST:TNG, ST:TOS, ST:Voy (in crossover), Avengers, Labyrinth, The Pretender, Person of Interest, Babylon 5 (in crossover, so far), The Mummy trilogy, Doctor Who (crossover mostly), Brimstone, Wild Wild West (TV), Addams Family (various version, mostly in crossover), Discworld, Criminal Minds (in crossover), Blake's 7 (in crossover, so far), Glass Books of the Dream Eaters, Mythology (in crossover, so far), The Pagemaster, and Alexandre Dumas' Valois trilogy.

Some of those still have more to go over, and there are a few random scraps from other fandoms that I'm looking kinda sideways at (when did I write half this stuff? Why did I write half this stuff?). *grins sheepishly* I've written some seriously weird stuff over the years, you know that?

Right. I have a plan. Sort of. I'm thinking, I'll put those stories that don't have a place on any of my LJ masterlists first. As in, small fandoms, one-offs, that sort of thing. Also, probably stuff off the old DC Masterlist, since it kinda ... wasn't. A Masterlist, that is -_-; Long fics after that, then. And then ... well. *smiles faintly* Lets get that far first, yes?
