Couple of original snippets from an old notebook I unearthed. Nothing much, really.

Deathless Ones

They were of a different kind, those men for whom death had ceased to have meaning. They raced through life, careless and powerful, vibrant and vivid as the lightning while they threw themselves laughing at the world. As fierce and beautiful and destructive as a firestorm, and yet we loved them, and feared them too, in equal measure. They were the Undying, the Everlasting, the Deathless Ones. They were our hope and our fear.

They were all we had left.

A/N: Just random blather, I think, but looks like I had fun writing it. Heh.

Alien Brain

"Pari, what the hell is with the kid?"

"Nothing, Jun. Nothing. He's just come home, is all."

"Home? But he's human, Pari! Stupid, yeah, but human! Ain't no home for humans out here."

"Hmm. Don't count on it, Jun. Any of it. Kid's not what you think."

"Yeah? And what's that mean?"

"It means on Earth he had an IQ somewhere in the minus fifties. Stupid, like you said. But here, in the Other ... he's a genius. A damn genius. 'cause he was born for this. All the time, waiting for it. Kid was born for the Other."

" ... What's that mean, Pari? For us, like? He gonna turn or something?"

"Nah. Doubt it. Me, I think it means we got lucky. Kid was born with an alien brain. Not his fault, and if it means we get outta here in one piece, I'll happily be his friend for life, me. So just take it easy, Jun. Take it easy. Let the kid do his thing."

"Well ... alright. You say so, Pari. You say so."

"I do, Jun. I do indeed."

A/N: *grin* Like the sounds of this one, whatever it was meant to be. Pari and Jun sound like a couple of right rogues.
