Okay, so, this awesome Star Trek vid just went up, and it is the best thing ever, so I had to rec it straight away:

Long Live by cosmic_llin (Star Trek, All Series)

This is my favourite Star Trek vid on the face of this or any planet. It's ... It starts with TOS, and then through tiny moments of individual connection starts to trace it's way up through the whole universe, then moves to favourite moments, and then hands the torch on to the newest Treks. From around the line "the end of a decade, the start of an age", I was nothing but a cooing, happy mess. Every time I watched it. It is the Trek vid, I swear to gods and warp engines. TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, a touch of ENT and AOS. Everything.

And then, since I was recommending vids, I figured I'd go through the favourites again. Here's another nine vids from various fandoms:

Nine Vids This Way:

Hey Ho by thuviaptarth (MCU + AoS)

Equally awesome, but more than a touch darker. This is the Avengers, as co-opted by and originating from the military industrial complex, offering a better future through the judicious use of violence. "The merchant kings of war and woe", from WWII up to the present day, "the point of sale, the puppet show", selling weapons and warriors to the masses from Howard Stark to Tony Stark, from Captain America to the Hulk to the Abomination, from SHIELD to the Avengers to AIM. When the children show up in the latter third, the kid from IM2, then Cap's implied endorsement, it's a punch in the gut.

Snow by Killabeez (Miracles)

Okay. All thirteen episodes of this series can be watched on youtube, and I recommend it, I love this show, what there is of it. This vid is just ... it's Alva and Paul as they come to grip with the world of weirdness, first individually, then through mutual strife, then through mutual support. With bonus Pappi looking on. It picks up a lot of the threads of warmth and pain and doubt and confusion and companionship, in the show and between these two rather testy men. I missed Evie from it, but it's one of the best Alva/Paul explorations I've seen.

The Inferno by DrFell (Hannibal)

This one is an odd one. I've only seen snatches of Hannibal on and off, enough to be horrified and intrigued, and this is possibly one of the simplest and yet best vid ideas I've seen. It's Will's journey through the show, set to a reading of Dante's Inferno, where Dante is lead through the valley of pain by a mysterious figure who shows him secret things. Which, yes. On the nose, really. Simple, yet effective. (WARNINGS for gore and beautiful yet horrifying imagery, as per the show).

Irresistable Force by bradcpu (Mass Effect)

Not one of my fandoms, video games are a strange and alien world to me, but Mass Effect was recommended to me as a space opera story regardless of medium, and this vid does seem to show why. In the sense of vast stellar conflicts and stirring music and heroic characters, at least. Heh. While I'm guessing the vid has a lot more nuances for people who know more about the story/characters than me, it does succeed in one thing even for the uninitiated. It makes the series look epically awesome.

We Must Be Killers by cupidsbow (The Defiant Ones)

This was a festivid that I missed a couple of years back, I think, because the movie isn't one I've seen, though it looks like the sort of thing I should. Two escaped prisoners, chained together, one black and one white, on the run through extremely unfriendly territory. Hope, anger, comradeship, pain, betrayal and failure. Somehow, I don't think the movie has a happy ending. A powerful one, maybe, but not a happy one. Not if it follows the story outlined in this vid.

The Sellout by sisabet (Multifandom)

The pains and sacrifices and strengths of female action heroes. Um. Emphasis on the 'pains' part. There are two major sections of violence and torture in here. These people fight, every step of the way, which gives a beautiful lie to the lyrics, but holy shit does it cost them. A lot. I think I found this first because it has Mace from Strange Days in it, but there are so many favourite characters here. Just ... ouch. Not an easy vid. Worth it though.

Start the Commotion by danegen (Leverage)

Um. One sentance summary: Hardison being awesome at length. All you need, really.

Open Your Houses by sweetestdrain (Twilight Saga)

Apparently, the process of making this vid involved saying 'make it creepier' a lot, and then the vidder doing her damnedest to oblige. Ah. Not exactly for the faint of heart, maybe, since this is explicitly Edward/Bella as a mutually abusive relationship, and it is creepy as hell. The music has a beat to it like a heartbeat, so there's a touch of vampire horror in there, but most of the creep-factor comes from the very explicitly outlined abusive moments between them, culminating with Bella dead on the birthing bed, and then her transformation. Per the title of the song, there's a theme of 'open your houses, let me in, I'll make it good in the end', and it does wrap towards a mutual triumph wrapped in a history of mutual abuse. So. Um. Yes. Very good vid, incredibly creepy subject matter? Just a warning.

Radioactive by gwyn (Pacific Rim)

Then some standard fandom cheese to wrap us up. Everyone ever has set fanvids to Imagine Dragons' 'Radioactive', but Pacific Rim is admittedly pretty much the perfect fit, so for this vid you kind of don't care. Pilot focus, lots of Jaeger porn, some nice human moments. But mostly jaegers. Giant robots fighting the apocalypse, FTW!

Et voila!
