I'm browsing my scraps folder and salvaging whatever looks salvageable at the moment. I think this goes with Unexpected Gambits and A Certain Physical Curiousity. I appear to have developed a fondness for Sybil/Havelock? At least as part of Sam/Sybil/Havelock, anyway.

Title: Tea and Conquest
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Discworld (Watch)
Characters/Pairings: Sybil Vimes, Havelock Vetinari. Sybil/Havelock, as part of Sam/Sybil/Havelock
Summary: "You know," Sybil commented mildly, "Rosie was asking me what it was like, to have the two most powerful men in Ankh-Morpork among my conquests." Sybil Vimes, Havelock Vetinari, and some mildly kinky flirting in his office
Wordcount: 806
Warnings/Notes: Established relationship, polyamory, flirting, oblique kink negotiation

For today's [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic theme. All 6 or 12 word ficlets. Um. Mostly 12.

Discworld, Vetinari, Ticking Clock

Irregularity is a state of mind. He doesn't flinch at disordered time.

Fairy Tales, Ariel/Cinderella, Shattered Glass Slippers

Ariel's limp worsens. Ella kneels, to slip whole glass onto tortured feet.

Highlander, Methos, Ultimate Pragmatist

"We eat our enemies' life-force, MacLeod. Cannibalism will hardly damn us faster."

MCU, Natasha, Truth

Truth isn't complicated, it's just rare.

Star Trek: TOS, Scotty, Working Miracles

Physics be damned, he's got God's own cheat sheet. Her name's Enterprise.

The Musketeers, Athos/d'Artagnan, Wanting

He's been burned by want before. D'Artagnan is too impetuous to care.
For a prompt of [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic of: Death + Rincewind, the day Death finally catches up. Anghammarad then appeared, because my brain is an odd place and it struck me that he and Rincewind might have a fair bit in common? *shakes head* I'm a little weird, I know -_-;

Title: Traveller's Rest
Rating: PG
Fandom: Discworld
Characters/Pairings: Rincewind, Death, Anghammarad, mention of Cohen. Rincewind & Death
Summary: Death finally catches up with Rincewind, Fate, Luck and quantum aside. All that's left, then, is what comes afterwards
Wordcount: 1529
Warnings/Notes: Um. Death, obviously. Afterlife. Comfort, maybe, and rest. Spoilers for Going Postal
Disclaimer: Not mine

... I had a notion? I don't even know. My apologies. *grins sheepishly*

Title: A Certain Physical Curiosity
Rating: Sam/Sybil/Havelock
Fandom: Discworld (Watch subseries)
Characters/Pairings: Sam Vimes, Sybil Vimes, Havelock Vetinari. Sam/Sybil/Havelock
Summary: A small, fluffy interlude in which Sam, Sybil and Havelock physically negotiate the differences their developing relationship has made to them. Also, Sam gets accidentally kicked out of the bed. Damn near twice
Wordcount: 1953
Warnings/Notes: Threesome fluff and sex, play fighting, Havelock being rather loose, relearning relationships in the face of polyamory
Disclaimer: Not mine

Because I'm apparently in the mood for Havelock Vetinari -_-;

Title: Of Nights And Days
Rating: PG
Fandom: Discworld
Characters/Pairings: Havelock Vetinari, Fate, the Librarian, Susan Sto Helit, Lu-Tze, Verence II. Havelock & Verence.
Summary: Destiny and history, all those solid, fragile things, and the shapes they make for us to live in. Five conversations Havelock Vetinari has had across the years
Wordcount: 1005
Warnings/Notes: The timeline for Verence in relation to Ankh-Morpork is a little confused, considering the 15 year timeskip in Wyrd Sisters and the shift in the Fools Guild, but I figured Discworld is confused enough internally about these things that I could fudge it for the sake of the story -_-;
Disclaimer: Not mine

For [livejournal.com profile] godoflaundry, for the five sentences prompts. It, ah, got away from me a fair bit -_-;

Title: And He Makes Three
Rating: PG
Fandom: Discworld (Watch series)
Characters/Pairings: Sam Vimes, Sybil Vimes, Havelock Vetinari, Young Sam, Carrot Ironfoundersson, mention of Cheery Littlebottom and Fred Colon. Sam/Sybil/Havelock
Summary: Sam/Sybil/Havelock, making a relationship work in ways little and large, from early trysts to an established relationship. Five prompt ficlets
Wordcount: 1495
Warnings/Notes: They make an oddly functional family, I think. Which possibly proves my insanity
Disclaimer: Not mine.

[livejournal.com profile] upupa_epops is doing a Free-For-All Meta Comment-A-Thon at their LJ, and there were a couple of interesting prompts. So ... random meta on the portrayal of Death in Discworld?

icarus_chained: lurid original bookcover for fantomas, cropped (Flight)
( Jun. 7th, 2013 11:03 pm)
For, naturally, today's [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic. Apparently 6 to 12 words a pop is about all I can manage today -_-;

Inception, Ensemble, Dream:

In dream's slow seep, we die.

Dishonoured, Outsider, Curious:

Gifts ripple in colliding worlds. Wonderful.

Vorkosigan, Barrayar, Space:

"They came knocking. We knocked back."

Doctor Who, Doctor/Master, Role Reversal:

"You were the one running, once."

Reader's Choice, Storm:

Weathered and worn ... or washed away.

Discworld, Vetinari, Armour (double):

"Armour is whatever stops the blow. It needn't be visible, Sir Samuel."

Reader's Choice, Stuff of Legend (double):

"I stood, and did not fall."

"Yet I fell ... and was remembered."

X-Men, Any Mutant, Monster:

'Monster' is more than a word.
Not really meta, as such. Just an interesting series of observations I blundered through while considering the following:

Holmes/Watson vs John/Mary (Downey filmes)
Vimes/Vetinari vs Sam/Sybil (Discworld)

The names, I mean, not the pairings themselves.

I was just thinking about this in terms of my having written Sybil/Sam/Havelock and Sherlock/John/Mary. Just noticing the choice of names used for each pairing tag. I noticed it even at the time, when I was putting the threesomes in the headers for the fics and noticed the odd ... stickiness of the names? Just taking those two. The Discworld set, do you say Vimes/Vetinari/Sybil? Vimes/Vetinari/Ramkin? Sam/Sybil/Havelock? With the Holmes set, is it Holmes/Watson/Mary, or Holmes/Watson/Morstan, or Sherlock/John/Mary?

None of them really look right, laid out. And there are a couple of reasons for that, and also a couple of implications, and right now I'm sort of randomly finding this fascinating. Heh. So. Bear with me while I unpick it a little?

Someone commented on Best Kept Secrets asking for a Sybil-&-Havelock sequel. Apparently, I was in the mood, though I don't know how well it came out -_-;

Title: Unexpected Gambits
Rating: PG
Fandom: Discworld (Watch)
Characters/Pairings: Sybil, Havelock, Sam, Rufus Drumknott. Sybil/Havelock, Sybil/Sam/Havelock
Summary: Sequel to Best Kept Secrets. With Sam ameniable (or at least too stunned to object), Sybil moves next to pull Havelock into orbit. Whether he means to let her or not.
Wordcount: 2245
Warnings/Notes: Sneaky!Sybil. And again, not sure on this one
Disclaimer: Not mine

I'm half-asleep and rather frazzled right now. Which, naturally, is when stupid ideas pop up. Heh.

What are the chances of somebody writing me a Hobbit/Discworld fanfic in which the meeting in Bag End is hijacked by the Nac Mac Feegle?

Because, see, that would be awesome. There'd be the Feegles and Nori (who, obviously, is really just a Feegle who was stolen and raised by dwarves and for some reason grew freakishly large), the Feegles and Dori (who, despite being male, is obviously a kelda), the Feegles and Dwalin (who would have the most glorious punch-up in Bilbo's front yard, possibly aided by Bifur and Bofur, and then have the slightly bizarre experience of being yelled at by a hobbit who is smaller than three of them, and outnumbered by the rest of them, but is shockingly scary despite that), the Feegles and Thorin ("Nae King! Nae Quin! Nae Laird!" "Well, I'm not your king!" "... Right then. So. Tell us more about this wee beastie ye be meanin' to kill?". Also, give Thorin one chance to mutter something deprecating about elves, and before you know it he's accidentally-on-purpose set a Feegle Clan on Thranduil, and feels no remorse whatsoever about it), the Feegles and Balin and Ori (gonnagle and gonnagle-in-training, respectively, possibly with input from Bilbo, who's the Hobbits' gonnagle), the Feegles and Gandalf (who really, by Discworld standards, is more witch than wizard, and perfectly capable of doing the Pursin' o' the Lips and the Tappin' o' the Foot), the Feegles and Fili & Kili (who compare notes on their respective keldas, Dis obviously being a proper kelda, right enough, even if she did let her Big Man wander off to fight a dragon on his own), the Feegles and Bilbo (who grabs the Big Man, gives him a stern talking to about Things You Are Not Allowed To Steal Or I'll Set Gandalf Or Dori On You, and afterwards get along perfectly well) ... All of it ending, naturally enough, when Gandalf and Bilbo let slip the existence of pipeweed, and manage to get five dozen tiny blue men stoned out of their trees in Bilbo's front parlour, while thirteen dwarves wonder what the fuck just happened and what the hell kind of things these Shire folk normally get up to.

... Um. In my defense, it's been a long few days, and I've possibly been thinking way too much about this. *grins sheepishly* Oi. Okay. I'm going to go sleep now, yes? Heh.
... Sci-fi noir, it does this to me, swear to Someone. And English class for compare/contrast, it's busted something in my brain. Oi.

You know when you're younger, and you're watching/reading stuff for the first time, and some things in it go right over your head? And then you watch/read it again, years later, and you realised what you missed?

I tend to get a lot of that. And, to be honest, if a thing is a joke, or an innuendo, chances are I still won't get it - for example, it honestly took me three years and an explanation from my sister to figure out why 'A Wizard's Staff Has A Knob On The End', from Discworld, should be a dirty song. *shrugs sheepishly* (That involved me actually asking my sister, saying I didn't know why this was dirty at all, saying the title out loud, and watching her struggle for a minute not to laugh in my face, before gently explaining).

Some of the things I missed were slightly more macabre, too. For example, you know the Addams Family movie, 1991? There's a bit in that where Morticia is pulling huge canvas bundles out of a wardrobe, checking their labels for contents. It goes: "Uncle Knickknack's summer wardrobe. Uncle Knickknack's winter wardrobe. *pause* Uncle Knickknack. *heavy thud*"

... See, what I thought she meant was, "Knickknack, Knickknack, again, more of Uncle Knickknack's stuff." NOT, "Knickknack, Knickknack, Uncle Knickknack's corpse." Though, in hindsight, considering this was the Addamses, I really, really should have suspected. *shakes head* Oi.

And then ... Some things you don't get because, as a kid, you just genuinely haven't the knowledge/experience to understand them. Things like:

Molly Grue: "Where were you when I was new? When I was one of those innocent young maidens you always come to? How dare you! How dare you come to me now, when I am this!"

When I was a kid, first watching The Last Unicorn, that scene was funny, watching Molly randomly yell in the unicorn's face, and kind of awesome, because Molly wasn't impressed just because, or afraid to yell at a mythological creature.

Watching it now ... I think that is possibly one of the most heartbreaking lines in the whole story. *smiles lopsidedly* Because when you're a kid, you sort of don't get what had happened between her and Cully, what her dreams had led her into. If you don't know the mythology of unicorns, you really, really don't understand what she's saying. So it's funny. And then, years later ... it's not.

And years later, watching that first scene of her, and then seeing everything she does afterwards, everything she fights through ... It becomes one of the reasons she sneaks up and becomes your favourite character. *smiles softly*

For [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic prompts. *grins*

Avengers movieverse, Tony & Thor, Electricity

Thor's lightning is too clumsy, imprecise, but baby, oh baby, that's where he comes in - the lightning rod, the transformer, the goddamn conduit - and distantly he hears Thor whoop, pure joy, over the roar of electricity in his ears, and the rumble of masonry as the armour channels the lance of god into the fucking finger of man.

Discworld, Vimes & Vetinari, Quarter

There must never be visible quarter given between them - only reward and punishment, anger and remorseless law, the bristling defiance of an honest man against the powers that be - but sometimes, seeing the strange, flinching mercy in Vimes' eyes, feeling the bizarre turning in his own chest ... Havelock wishes it were not so.

African Diasporic Myth, Anansi, Nothing Strange

They say, his adversaries, that there is nothing strange in this world - nothing subtle or hidden, secret or sly, nothing turned from true, nothing new or different, nothing rebellious, nothing magical, nothing at all but what they know - this, he thinks, this soft belief, is the greatest gift they have ever given him.

The Snow Queen (fairytale), Snow Queen/Kai, Certain As The Sun

Though she had been given three kisses - once to touch, twice to keep, thrice to send them down to sleep - she knew, even as she looked at him, falling slowly frozen before her, waiting for the cold death of her touch, or the melting warmth of another, that certain as the sun, certain as the cold ... he was never hers to hold.

Nikita (Luc Besson), Nikita & Amande, Allure

She had learned allure, the softness of it, the killing of it, in front of a mirror - two faces, side by side, the resting of a soft, papery cheek against hers, the pull of her lips against the paint, and the ancient, serene knowing in Amande's eyes: we are infinite, we are soft, we are beloved ... and we are, at out hearts, the most dangerous things in all the world.

Saiyuki, Hakkai, Hold Nothing

Free of all (lost in the lakes of blood, a thousand demons, one love), bound by nothing (torn free in losing of an eye, sheared from the past by the changing of a name), you live your life (six oranges, because we're all gonna eat, umbrellas because it's always going to rain, a never-faltering smile because we're all gonna die) ... simply as it is (Hakkai).

Book of Enoch, Raphael/Azazel, Before

"Do you know what I find amusing," Azazel whispered, a dark curl in Raphael's ear, a searing chain holding him to the dark, "that I was Grigori, and yet it was you ... who watched us fall."
I'm taking this one first, because I have to kip early tonight, and both Locks and This Means War are going to take me a while. Heh. Hope no-one minds?

The cracky, cracky Discworld fic wherein I break Vimes' brain. Heh. Etchings, the Annotated Version:
