For the following prompt on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic: Reese's secret is that he's a werewolf but while Finch passes well for being a regular human there's something... off.

Title: Where The World Grows Thin
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters/Pairings: John Reese, Harold Finch, Supernatural Creatures, Nathan Ingram. John/Harold
Summary: There was something off about Finch. He wasn't another werewolf, wasn't an undead, wasn't anything John could pin down, but there was something wrong about him, and John knew it. He just hadn't imagined quite how wrong it might be, or how much it might cost. Dark paranormal AU
Wordcount: 3200
Warnings/Notes: AU, paranormal elements, death, sacrifice, omens/portents/premonitions
Disclaimer: Not mine

Written for a prompt on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic of: Reese/Finch, Reese had never found power attractive before. Went somewhere much darker and more edged on me?

Title: Lance
Rating: R
Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters/Pairings: John Reese, Harold Finch. Reese/Finch
Summary: John asks Harold for something. The fulfilment leaves them both somewhat shattered
Wordcount: 2212
Warnings/Notes: Sex, dom/sub, blindfolds, control. Somewhat dubious consent, mostly because John didn't fully inform Finch about the possible consequences of what they were doing, or of the reasons they were doing it
Disclaimer: Not mine

There are moments when I realise that the continuum between fanfic, AU and original story can be very, very short when it comes to my writing. It makes me wonder somewhat about my writing impulses.

There are several original worlds/storylines that I basically run as comfort stories in my head. I mean, when I'm walking or thinking or somewhere without access to external stories, or when I'm lying abed trying to sleep and kind of failing at it, or just when I want to ramble around in some world that isn't this one, I tend to grab around among the stories in my head until I find one that feels good right now, and let it run awhile.

I'm mentioning this now because I was running one earlier, and tracing it back through earlier iterations out of curiosity's sake, and abruptly remembered that that story had initially started out as a fandom AU. It'd been more or less morphed beyond all recognition by the present iteration, but it had actually started as a mental fanfic.

And there are a couple of those, now that I'm remembering them. I tend to write AUs at the drop of a hat, and to imagine AUs for half the bloody canons I've ever seen/read, and some of the ones I don't end up actually writing as fanfic have a tendency to shift on me. Just as an illustration, a couple of the ones I actually ended up writing fragments of in their orig-fic forms:

For today's theme on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic.

Doctor Who, Tegan, Walking out of a Life isn't Easy:

"Brave heart, Tegan."

But there are limits to how brave a heart can be. And sometimes the brave thing ... is knowing when bravery isn't enough.

MCU, Clint & Natasha, I Can't Write You a Happy Ending:

"Can't promise it'll end well," Clint says. "But I can promise I'll be along for the ride."

For her, it's good enough. It always is.

Person of Interest, Finch & Reese, Not Quite Arson:

"Was it necessary to resort to arson, Mr Reese?"

"Wasn't arson. I didn't burn it down, I blew it up. Not the same."

"... Of course."

... Now that I look at those, there's an odd progression through them, isn't there? *bemused*
For the [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic theme: 6 word fics.

Highlander, Methos, brother:

"I'm sorry. My name was Cain."

Jeeves & Wooster, Bertie, morning:

"Good grief. 7am? What appalling nonsense!"

Hannibal, Will/Hannibal, role reversal:

"I thought I'd feed you lies."

Rise of the Guardians, Pitch, dark and cold:

Dark and cold. And still alone.

Any, Any, Dragons:

The mountains dream. Then, they wake.

The Great Mouse Detective, Basil/Ratigan, intelligence:

In memory, in tribute, a gift - Basil, the world's greatest criminal mind. (Double feature, 12 words)

Tron Legacy, Clu 2.0, strategy:

In a perfect world, it worked.

Arsenic and Old Lace, Mortimer Brewster/Dr Einstein, something new:

"A new face?!"

"For our wedding."

Highlander, Methos, playing the long game and winning:

"And the first shall be last."

Person of Interest, any, Steampunk AU:

"You're Nemo," John realised.

"Harold, usually."

Any, Any, sacrifice:

"You'd be free."

"You'd be dead."

Any, Any scientist, dead and gone:

"Old Brown ..."

"Don't start with me."

Any, Any, eternal:

Mountains rise and fall. Stone remembers.

The Mummy movies, Imhotep/Anck-su-namun, faithful:

"Forever will not be long enough."

Dexter, Dexter, guilt:

Place the blame, playing Harry's game.
Um. I'm a few episodes behind, and I'm shaky writing-wise recently, so I'm not sure how well this turned out. But Root's ideals fascinated me, and how they slotted into the debate between Harold and Nathan, between ethics and morals, love and compassion. So. Um. You get this?

Title: As Angels Love, And Men
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters/Pairings: Harold Finch, Root, The Machine, John Reese. Root & The Machine, Harold & The Machine, Harold & John
Summary: An imagined confrontation between Root, Harold and the Machine. Love, ethics and utopia, the love of a person and the love of a machine

Wordcount: 6088
Warnings/Notes: Highwaywomen, crime, spies, vigilante action

Apparently POI now has a kink meme. This sort of went sideways to the prompt, though. *grins sheepishly*

Title: The Best Lies
Rating: Light R
Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters/Pairings: John Reese, Harold Finch, random kidnappers, mention of Elias. John & Harold

For today's theme on [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic:

Good Omens - Wacky Races (Aziraphale & Crowley):

The angel was a miracle driver. Quite literally, actually. The second time the gearbox had dropped off to lie forlorn in the middle of the road like something out of a cartoon, Crowley had insisted. There was only so much he'd see done to a fine car before he snapped.

Avengers - Zodiac (Tony, Bruce, Ensemble):

"So why's the guy who looks like me the paranoid, nervous wreck, and Bruce's doppleganger is the wise, cool cop?"

Tony was considering huffing at the suddenly expressionless faces, putting Zodiac away, when Bruce looked over with a rueful smile.

"It had to be true in some universe, didn't it?"

Captain America - Loyalty (Steve/Bucky):

The place is going up like a firework display, and honestly he can't even really be sure this suddenly perfect Steve isn't some kind of hallucination, but ... hallucination or not, Steve came for him, and he's never left Steve behind in his life, and he damn well isn't starting now.

OR

It's not Captain America he's following, because he doesn't know who the hell that guy is. But the guy who got himself outnumbered and shot at and blown up, the familiar idiot who'd die for you just because you needed him to ... Yeah. That's the idiot he's following.

Person of Interest - Eggs Benedict (Finch/Reese):

It wasn't the food. Past a certain point in your career as an operative, and definitely past a point as a drunkard, you stopped caring so much about what things tasted like. But this ... This was confidence and acceptance and trust, and it was the best thing he'd ever tasted.

Frankenstein - Remorse (Creature/Frankenstein):

Strange, the monster thought. Had Frankenstein always been so frail? So shrunken, so wounded and craven and fragile? Was it only in death, this visage of weakness? Or perhaps ... was it only in death, that eyes could see clear?

"I mourn you," he whispered, pierced remorse. "And shall follow hence."

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes - Sacrificial (Bruce Banner):

He sacrificed his freedom (his body, his will, his life), to save the lives that stood to be lost if he didn't. Sometimes he wonders, in the endless empty echo-chamber at the heart of the Hulk, if the life he sacrificed wasn't given a little more literally than he'd thought.

Title: Soft Brutalities
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters/Pairings: John Reese, Harold Finch. Reese & Finch
Summary: There were times Reese wondered if Finch understood the violence of the man he'd invited to join his crusade
Wordcount: 599
Warnings/Notes: Violence, mostly

For [livejournal.com profile] marbleglove. And for some reason, it went from being a ficlet to a 3000-word monstrosity on me. *blinks in bewilderment*

Title: Prediction, Protection
Rating: PG-13
Fandoms: Person of Interest, The Pretender
Characters/Pairings: PoI, Harold Finch, John Reese. TP, Jarod
Summary: A conversation between Harold Finch and Jarod, on the subject of a more shared past than one of them realised
Wordcount: 3110

In a lighter frame of mind than recent posts, TV that's making me happy right now. *grins*

I'm currently working my way through Season 2 of Haven (I'm up to 2x06), Season 1 of Person of Interest (it's like The Equalizer meets Minority Report - I love it), and bouncing around seasons 1 & 2 of Eureka (yeah, I love Nathan Stark). Because, yes, I can't stay focused on any one thing for more than a few days at a time.

PoI is getting the most consistent attention right now. Mostly, admittedly, for Harold Finch (Michael Emmerson). *shrugs, unabashed* I tend to fall for gateway characters pretty hard and fast, so. Heh. I've seen up as far as 1x09, and hoping to catch up to airing episodes soon. The show really does remind me of The Equalizer in a lot of ways, though with a somewhat younger action lead (though Jim Cavizel looks good with grey temples), and more of a sci-fi bent. *grins* Lovely, though.

Haven ... I think I'm developing an OT3. Mostly because I adore Nathan/Audrey, but I also kinda love Duke. *ducks sheepishly* And, see, I watched 2x06 last night, which doesn't do the OT3 any harm at all (not sure what to think about Chris, though).

Eureka ... Snark. And crack. And SCIENCE! And more crack. And another OT3, at least the seasons so far. And I kinda love Zoe, and Jo, and SARAH. And did I mention the crack? Because the show apparently runs on it. *grins* Lighter than the other two, so far, so it's like dessert, really. Heh.

1. Write down the names of ten characters.
2. Write a fic of fifty words or less for each prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. Do NOT read the prompts before you do Step 1.

1 - Nathan Stark (Eureka)
2 - Duke Crocker (Haven)
3 - Harold Finch (Person of Interest)
4 - Amanda Darieux (Highlander)
5 - Nikola Tesla (Sanctuary)
6 - Illya Kuryakin (Man From UNCLE)
7 - Jack Vincennes (LA Confidential movieverse)
8 - James Norrington (Pirates of the Caribbean)
9 - Pepper Potts (Iron Man movieverse)
10 - Cho Hakkai (Saiyuki)

A/N: Ficlets are definitely NOT under 50 words long. *sheepish* Length varies, but none of them are quite that short. Because I have control problems, obviously -_-; Also, I'm trying out some new fandoms, and some old ones I've never written in before/haven't written in a while, so. You know. Warning for shaky writing ahoy!
